History
Edinburgh Grand Opera – known at the time as The Edinburgh Grand Opera Group- was formed in 1955 and has been performing fully-staged operas almost every year since then.
The company made its debut in 1955 with a performance of Bizet's Carmen at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh and our Jubilee production in May 2015 was Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore.
We have performed at The Usher Hall, Edinburgh Festival Theatre, The King's Theatre, The Queens Hall, The Lyceum and currently make our home at the beautifully refurbished Church Hill Theatre. We have attracted many acclaimed directors and music directors over the years and past operas include:
Traviata, Macbeth, Nabucco and Aida - Verdi
Carmen and The Pearl Fishers - Bizet
Faust - Gounod
Don Giovanni - Mozart
The Saint of Bleecker Street (a Scottish premiere) – Gian Carlo Menotti
La Prigione di Edimburgo (premiere of a newly discovered work) - Federico Ricci
Peter Grimes - Benjamin Britten
Cavalleria Rusticana - Pietro Mascagni
